Ziwani Tented Luxury Camp Kenya
Ziwani camp is a pleasant tented Kenya Luxury Camp on the western boundary of Tsavo West National Park, not far from the Tanzanian border. It is in an undeveloped part of Ziwani Sisal Estate, on the edge of a small natural- looking dam in the Sante River. Clumps of papyrus grow in the dam, tall trees fringe the far banks, and lawns extend from the Kenya lodge to the water. Birds are everywhere-ducks swim past the papyrus, a fish eagle perches on a fallen tree trunk, large marabou stork putters about in the shallows. There are monkeys playing in the trees, and you can sometimes see hippos and crocodiles in the water. At night, bait is up for a leopard on the far side of the dam. When it is clear, you can see the snow-capped peaks of Mt Kilimanjaro high above the trees.
Accommodations at Ziwani luxury tented safari camp
Ziwani luxury camp has 20 tents and an attractive dining and bar area with views across the dam. This open-sided structure has a makuti roof and local “twig” chairs painted green. There is an inviting bar counter and hanging clay pots with plant. The effect is natural, pleasing and functional.
The original 16 tents are fairly close together. They are set far back from the river and have remarkable views. From some you hear the relaxing sound of flowing water. The luxury tents are on large cement slabs which provide generous verandas. Large makuti-thatched roof keep the tents shaded. There are woven mats
on the canvas floor and many “windows” to let in air and light. The furniture is made of pale wood, and there are high-quality mattresses on the twin beds. Immediately behind each tent is a private bathroom with a long-drop toilet and a safari shower. Since there is no electricity, hurricane lamps are used instead.
Four new tents have been added across the river. These are extra large and can accommodate a third or even a fourth bed if necessary. They have electricity run from the Camp generator and modern en suite bathrooms with flush toilet and shower with hot and cold water running.
Safari food at Ziwani Kenya Luxury tented camp
The food is delicious with variety of freshly “home-baked” dishes. Since there is no electricity, all meals are prepared on charcoal, and metal trunks are used for baking. Guests have full English breakfast and eat a barbecued dinner at night on the lawn by a Campfire.
Kenya night game drives and Kenya safari wildlife walks
At Ziwani you can go on night game drives or guided walks where you are likely to see hippos at close range in some of the river pools. You can also go on game drives in Tsavo West National Park. Most visitors are tourists from the U.K. who are driven to Ziwani camp from the coast. For this amount of driving and to appreciate the natural beauty and peace of Ziwani luxury camp, it’s worth coming for more than one night. There is an airstrip next to this Kenya Luxury Camp.
