What to Look For in Restaurant Furniture

Choosing furniture for your restaurant can be a time consuming and expensive process. Not only do you need to be able to find the right sort of furniture - you also need to be able to find the right, reputable supplier. The support you get from this supplier can be essential to the smooth-running and success of your business, as can the quality of product they provide. To take some of the stress out of planning your new furniture, here are some things to bear in mind:

Durability - Your restaurant furniture needs to be able to stand up to heavy use. Some diners will be large, some will lean back in their chairs and some will drag the chairs across the floor, all of which contributes to the daily wear and tear the furniture is subjected to. If it isn't very durable it will look shabby within weeks and maybe even fall apart under the pressure.

Safety - the safety of your diners is paramount and any restaurant furniture needs to reflect this. Sharp corners, difficult to use items - anything that could cause a potential hazard should be avoided. This includes highly flammable materials that might look nice but perform too well in a fire.

Materials - the materials of your furniture have to look good, in-keeping with the rest of the decor, and also perform their function well. For example, you may need extremely durable materials and should discard any that will wear or look dated within a short period of time. Restaurants have the unique problem of frequent sp

llages so they should also be easy to clean or replace.

Style - it may be cheaper to choose your furniture first and then design the room around it. Your furniture will draw the attention of all customers and is a very large aspect of the overall atmosphere. Classic furniture will wear better than modern styles, unless you're going for a cutting-edge, quirky look that you're willing to update with the pace of new trends.

Cost - you may be willing to spend a premium to get a good look, but you'd be surprised at the low cost of contract furniture available from suppliers. You can take advantage of wholesale costs, and depending on the materials and upholstery you choose you could be surprised at what feels like making a saving.

Function - you can save on both cost and space by going for multi-functional furniture. Modular seating and tables for example can be great space-savers - you can change the layout of your restaurant in just a few minutes. Fold-out tables or foldable chairs perform the same function, and mean you only have to buy one piece of furniture to do the work of two - perfect for a tight budget.

Warranty - if you buy from a reputable supplier your furniture should come with some sort of guarantee or warranty. This means that if anything goes wrong that isn't caused by unusual usage your furniture will be repaired or replaced. If a supplier tries to supply a good product they should offer you these guarantees. If you aren't offered one beware!
