Do you ever stand at your pantry door looking for something that you know is there, but you just can't find it? A pantry can easily get disorganized. It's a part of the house that every family member may plunder several times a day. Here are a few home organization tips for pantries that may help you find what you are looking for in there.
Pantries can sometimes become a catch all for household things that don't have a "home" anywhere else. These may include coolers, lunch pails, batteries, paper goods, extension cords and other things. Here are a few steps to follow to get your pantry organized.
*First take everything out.
*Check all expiration dates on products and throw out anything that is expired.
*Use clear plastic containers to store loose items. Combining packages of grits, instant oatmeal, snack packs and the like in a plastic container is more space saving than having several boxes with only 3 or 4 in them. Using clear containers makes it much easier to locate what you are trying to find.
*Use plastic containers to store like items such as sugars, flour, and cornstarch. Using plastic containers to store opened, boxed or bagged items is a great way to preserve freshness and keep insects and rodents at bay.
*Restock food items first. Keep them in like categories. Put boxes on higher shelves and cans and jars on lower shelves.
*After you have stocked all the food, you can now determine what else you have space for. Place na
kins, paper plates and any plastic utensils together.
*Use the very top shelf for things you may not use that often like small coolers or large packs of paper towels.
*For all the other items that don't belong, don't cram them back in there. Find them a more appropriate place.
*Keep the pantry floor as empty as possible. This will help the pantry stay neat and more accessible.
