Carpet and the padding tends to store the smell of cigarettes so this is very important if you want it gone for good.

Four: If you have central heating and air then you will need to replace the air filters so that the air will not be stale or musty because of the cigarette smoke.

Consider using a semi permanent air filter

as opposed to the disposable type. This will filter out small particles that you would not otherwise be able to get.

You may even want to get a high density filter that you can wash and use over and over. These are great for really getting odors and things like mold and other problems in the air.
