Choosing Shed Alarms - Pick The Right One

The range of shed alarms is actually as wide as home burglar alarms and locks - the kind of security system you decide to install is completely based on your belongings, the location of your shed and your level of anxiety concerning theft.

Of course the simplest thing you can do to keep your belongings safely in your shed is to just lock it up. A strong padlock will usually do to keep out any casual would-be thieves, however it is true that if someone is aware of expensive equipment or machinery in your shed they might be determined enough to do away with a padlock or take the door off its hinges!

If you are fairly concerned about the contents of your shed, say an expensive lawnmower, band saw, bicycles or set of golf clubs, then you will want to look into shed alarms that reflect the value of the belongings you want to protect.

If you're just worried that vandals will make off with your spade and push-lawnmower for the fun of it, you should be happy with a strong padlock. If you're protecting expensive equipment, however, you may want to look at shed alarms that are based on motion detection and doorframe contact. Again, this decision will be made based on the value of your belongings - obviously you aren't going to invest in a full-blown video surveillance system and motion detector if all you've got locked in the shed is a leafblower. If you're trying to secure something particularly valuable, however, fitting a shed alarm will be the right choice

for you.

Motion detectors can be set up to monitor any area inside the shed, and will therefore pick up anyone forcing their way in through a window for example.

Shed alarms provided by Crime Prevention Products, if motion is detected will trigger an extremely loud 130 decibel siren. They also include a Magnetic Contact which will trigger the alarm when two contact pieces, installed on the door and the doorframe to be in constant contact, are taken apart when the door is opened.

For most people, motion detector and contact shed alarms are the most effective and affordable.
